Workshop on Smart Patenting – summary

On May 7th 2015 at Wrocław University of Technology a workshop entitled “Smart Patenting – how to protect, not to confine” was held. The workshop, organized within the ENGINE project, gathered both – theoreticians and practitioners – that were presenting the legislation and current trends in protecting intellectual property rights in the area of network intelligence and IT. The speakers shared their knowledge and experience on the available mechanisms for protecting the ideas and products (patents, trademarks, copyrights), presented how the protection looks like in EU and overseas and how the IPR works in the game industry. At the end of the workshop a panel discussion was organized to sum up current trends and problems the companies and researchers may face when protecting their ideas and what is the situation in Poland in this area compared to other countries. The next event in this series is planned to be organized next year.
