WT5.1 – Establishment of a New Complex Networks and Massive Data Analysis Laboratory

This new central laboratory will be integrated (via efficient network connections) with other laboratories within and outside ENGINE. The main purpose of this laboratory is to provide advanced and powerful computing resources (8-12 efficient blade servers) for complex analyses, simulation and modelling research projects performed in ENGINE, also with cooperation with other specialized ENGINE laboratories (WT 5.2 – 5.5). It means that some parts of less loading calculations and for smaller samples will be performed in other laboratories, while massive experiments, calculations, simulations and modelling will be carried out in this central laboratory. It includes computations on massive networks with millions of nodes and billions of edges, solving very complex models, building large number of learning models, processing of signal streams, 3D models, and large collections of texts. Its storage capacity for massive data collections (min. 80 TB, with 1GB/s transfer rate) and computational power will be linked to the equipment and software from other labs, therefore enabling to properly analyse results and data generated by the new and old laboratories. Additionally, this laboratory will be used for cloud computing simulations.
The laboratory will have specialized software installed for a wide range of simulation experiments already available at WrUT. The laboratory will also have efficient database engines installed as well as specialized software for the exploratory analysis and visualization of complex network data, e.g. CYRAM NetMiner 4 and the software for managing virtual environment.
